When Quality Isn't the Priority

Not every project needs Leoni-grade specs. If you're prototyping a concept vehicle that will never see production, or building a one-off test rig, over-specifying connectors is waste. The mistake is assuming that same 'good enough' approach scales to a production line. That's where the cost of quality becomes a brand liability.

The downside of chasing absolute consistency is premium pricing. Leoni-level interconnection systems cost more. On a 10,000-unit order, the difference between a standard commercial connector and a Leoni-spec equivalent might be $8,000 — less than one recall event would cost. That's not a universal calculation. For a hobbyist building a custom wiring harness, that premium is pointless. For a company whose reputation depends on reliability, it's insurance.
